Knee injuries can be handled in both ways-home care and hospital treatment. Injury like sprain can be cured at the home itself. 
Home care can be done if you do not suspect fractures. Fracture needs complete doctor's attention and care. Home care for other than fractures is:

  • Ice bag compression: That is a small bag of ice can be used to compress at the area of injury for 15-20 minutes.
  • Elevate the inured area: hold the injured knee elevated so that pain and swelling would decrease fast.
  • Rest: In order to avoid a knee joint replacement, keep the injured knee stress- free, never put on the weight of the body to injured knee. Complete rest is needed for better and quicker healing of these kind injuries.

The above said practices are applicable for different type of knee injuries. Now we can look into the hospital treatment and care for knee injuries. If cannot the tolerate the pain of the injury, a sudden swelling developed on the injured part or burning feeling in the injury, then consult the doctor as soon as possible.

Types of knee injuries: 
Chronic pain

The process of knee joint replacement is called total knee arthroplasty. This procedure includes the removal and replacement of knee joint with a artificial one.

You can help to prevent injuries if you:

  • Warm up joints and muscles by gently going through the motions of your sport or activity and stretching muscles.
  • Wear suitable footwear.
  • Avoid sudden jarring motions.
  • Try to turn on the balls of your feet when you're changing direction, rather than twisting through your knees.
  • Cool down after exercise by performing light, easy and sustained stretches.
  • Build up an exercise program slowly over time.
